Major Sports and Athletes
Track and Field (Athletics)
The U.S. has traditionally been strong in track and field events, and Paris 2024 will be no exception. Athletes like Tatyana McFadden, a multiple-medalist in wheelchair racing, and Daniel Romanchuk, another top wheelchair racer, are expected to be strong contenders. We have high expectations for medals from our athletes.
Swimming
The U.S. Paralympic swimmers are also expected to make a splash in Paris. 13-time Paralympic gold medalist Jessica Long and Mallory Weggemann, who won two gold medals at Tokyo 2020, will lead the U.S. swimming team. The U.S. team will also feature several promising swimmers who aim to continue the country’s legacy of excellence in the pool. We are confident that we will continue to be unrivaled in the pool.
Wheelchair Basketball
The U.S. men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball teams are among the favorites to win medals in Paris. Both teams have a strong track record, with the women’s team winning gold at Tokyo 2020. Now, we hope that both our men’s and women’s wheelchair teams can repeat that success. Key players like Steve Serio and Becca Murray are expected to play important roles.
Cycling
American cyclists have been performing exceptionally well at the recent Paralympics. Multiple medalists in road and track cycling events, Shawn Morelli, and road-racing powerhouse Samantha Bosco will represent the U.S. in Paris. Every time they step on the pedals, our nation will be with them.
Sitting Volleyball
The U.S. women’s sitting volleyball team is also a strong contender. After winning gold at Tokyo 2020, they will be looking to defend their titles in Paris. Key players include Lora Webster and Monique Burkland, who bring great experience and skill to the team. We wish our unrivaled team the best of luck at the net.
Para-Triathlon
Para-triathlon has gained popularity in recent years and the U.S. team includes standout athletes such as Kendall Gretsch and Hailey Danz. Both have podium finishes at previous Paralympics and are expected to perform well in Paris and we wish them the best of luck.
Para-Equestrian
Para-equestrian is another sport where U.S. athletes have made their mark. Notable competitors such as Roxanne Trunnell, who won gold in Tokyo, will once again be aiming for the top spot. Why shouldn’t France have another gold medal?
Preparation and Training
The U.S. Paralympic team has completed a rigorous training and preparation process for the Games. Many athletes have trained at specialized facilities such as the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, while others have trained with local clubs and organizations across the country. Focusing on the performance, health and mental preparation of our athletes to compete at the highest level, our athletes will now be in France to represent our nation.
We wish all our athletes success in the Paralympic Games that started today.
