I come from a family where we drink herbal tea almost every evening, and where the Sunday stroll always ends with a good cup of hot tea: no wonder then that I myself have become a great lover of infusions of all kinds!
It's quite simple: not a day goes by without me preparing at least half a liter of it – to relax, please my taste buds, or to improve my digestion depending on the type chosen. Always away from meals if it is real tea, of course, in order to preserve my iron levels, and never as a total replacement for simple water, which remains the best hydration possible!
Today, I wanted to share some of my experiences on this subject with you, by presenting around fifteen teas and herbal teas that I have particularly liked over the past few months or years.
Let's admit it right away, my heavy consumption does not make me a purist connoisseur, and unlike coffee, I am not particularly “snob” in this area. Depending on my mood, I appreciate different styles, from big box brands to small, more confidential producers.
At the same time, you may find my selection not very varied. It's both a question of taste and digestive sensitivity: unlike many people, I rarely drink spicy chai-type teas because they quickly nauseate me (they are therefore reserved for events or outings). punctual), and almost never green tea because the vast majority immediately makes me sick (a fairly common phenomenon due to bitterness). On the other hand, I particularly tolerate and appreciate light, fresh, or softer and rounder flavors.
I still hope that some of you will find below some good reference ideas to try. Don’t hesitate to share your own recommendations in the comments, I’ll be curious to hear from you!
CITRUS
- Thé des Lords – Palais des Thés Earl Gray is probably my favorite type of tea for the entire fall-winter period (even if I also drink it iced London Fog style in summer!), and this interpretation from Palais des Thés is my favorite: I appreciate its very aromatic flavor, rich in bergamot, but also its black tea base which is in no way bitter.
- Rooibos des Lords – Palais des Thés When I want an Earl Gray but the time is not right (or I have already consumed enough caffeine/theine for the day), this rooibos is a perfect alternative, with the same flavor powerful than in its black tea version. It's a good replacement for my old favorite bergamot rooibos, Miss Gray from Cape & Cape, which is no longer sold.
- Black tea Blood orange – GreenMa* (organic) This new product from the GreenMa brand is already a classic for me: its refreshing flavor makes it ideal when I want a rather light black tea. You can really feel the authentic taste of citrus peel.
- Date-Fig-Lemon black tea – Okoshira* (organic) A black tea with lemon that changes a little, made softer and warmer by subtle oriental notes. The assam tea base is really tasty, without bitterness. Thanks to its well-balanced, not too powerful taste, it also strikes me as a classic: I never tire of it, and it's the one I turn to when I don't really know what to drink.
- Gingembre Citron – Yogi Tea (organic) The herbal tea that I always have in my cupboard – on par with that of Clipper In the same genre ! The ginger-lemon mixture works both in the morning for a little boost of energy and spice, and after meals for a digestive action. I could not live without it !
FRUITS
- Strawberry-Guarana black tea – GreenMa* (organic) Often, I find strawberry teas too artificial (chemical taste) or too acidic. This one is PERFECT: very fragrant, authentic, with a slightly bitter base that supports slightly longer infusions well. I often serve it to friends I invite over and everyone loves it!
- Wild Berry Mate – Biomate* (organic) Mate is a great energizing alternative: unlike coffee, for example, it creates no side effects for me, while still giving me a certain mental clarity. I really like the flavored versions offered by Biomaté, which really resemble classic fruity herbal teas. This one is undoubtedly my favorite, as delicious hot as cold!
- Sun King Tea – Deuza Solar: this is the first word that comes to mind to describe this tea, whose name is therefore very appropriate! Between the notes of jasmine, yellow fruits and citrus, its flavor transports me directly into a summer landscape that smells of flowers and the beach. It also works very well in an iced version!
- Sweet Comfort – Modern Break* I was lucky enough to be able to taste several of the fruity infusions offered by Sandrine from Pause Moderne, and I really liked them all – including this one, flavored with wild berries, which is delicious hot or cold! We are here with flavors that are a little more “candy”, enhanced by aromas (natural of course), but I find the result ideal for a gourmet snack. In the same genre, I also loved Jardin Fruité and Fraîche soir!
FLOWERS AND PLANTS
- La Délicieuse – Maison Sage* This 100% natural infusion, purely composed of plants cultivated and dried by hand (here lemon thyme, lemongrass and spearmint), lives up to its name: we are almost surprised that its taste is so fragrant and addictive with such a simple ingredient list! It's fresh, light, digestible, and I also love it in an iced version. A favorite !
- The Herbalist nº74 – Palais des Thés (organic) Another of my favorite infusions for its subtle orange blossom flavor, mixed with other relaxing plants like verbena. It is a perfect herbal tea to drink in the evening to prepare for a peaceful night.
- Mama Relax – GreenMa* (organic) A herbal tea with a very mild, slightly lemony and floral taste, and a beautiful bluish color. Here too, we only find real pieces of plants in the composition, without any added aroma. Soothing par excellence, I like to drink it to relax when I'm anxious, or in the evening in anticipation of a good night's sleep.
GOURMETS
- Chestnut Oolong – Comptoir Français du Thé This tea discovered thanks to a friend is one of my favorites in the fall, when rainy days call for cocooning: its round flavor is a perfect mix between the sweetness of oolong (a type of semi-fermented tea that I love) and the richness of the chestnut.
- Capital Sin – Chic Des Plantes* (organic) This is my ultimate gourmet infusion – the one that reminds me of hot chocolate, and that I drink when I want to treat myself to a little comforting treat. It contains no added flavoring, so the taste is truly natural, but surprisingly quite cocoa and very round, very sweet at the same time, almost milky. A delight!
- Rooibos des Vahinés – Palais des Thés I love vanilla: a comforting flavor for me, a little nostalgic, like a little cloud of sweetness. This rooibos, discovered one day during a Thalys journey, highlights it wonderfully, combined with notes of almonds. Here too, the result is very authentic, round and well scented. A perfect choice for snack or evening!
MATCHA
- Matcha Ceremony Anatae* (organic) The crème de la crème of Japanese tea! Unlike other green teas, I tolerate matcha very well: it's even a flavor that I particularly like, both in hot or cold lattes and in desserts. That of Anatae is of incredible quality: organic and harvested by hand in Japan from the youngest leaves of the tea plants, richer in antioxidants. The leaf veins are removed manually for perfect selection, which helps avoid any bitterness. Its taste is clearly superior to what I had been able to test until now: moreover, my girlfriend @noemiememories who has lived in Japan swears by it too!
