Apart from my childhood dream of one day having a Chanel bag (fulfilled last year!), I have long had a total absence of attraction towards the world of luxury – the glamour, the ostentatious signs of wealth, It wasn't my thing, and it didn't correspond to my reality.
However, in recent years, my passion for vintage has led me to appreciate beautifully crafted objects, which last over time, bear witness to their era, and of which we find few equivalents today. I discovered the existence on the second-hand market of many old models from large houses thanks to which we can access their chic, their quality, for prices often much lower than those of new – and I fell under charm !
At the moment, it's mainly these kinds of nuggets that make me dream, in addition to a few more confidential high-end brands whose clear superiority of materials and construction I admire. Without looking for them exclusively, I always keep my eyes peeled for resale sites in case an interesting opportunity presents itself!
As a little bubble of lightness, today I wanted to share with you some of the luxury (or high-end) home accessories that I would potentially like to treat myself to in the months or years to come.
1. A BURGUNDY DELVAUX BAG
The leather goods house Delvaux is the oldest in the world (founded in 1829) and of equivalent quality to Hermès – but very few people know it outside Belgium, as their production remains confidential and their communication discreet. Faced with the intensive marketing of classic houses (Chanel, Dior, Prada, etc.) which are releasing new it bags all the time, their simplicity and timelessness is more like what I aspire to be.
In addition to several of their current models that catch my eye, my big favorite of the brand is one of their vintage bags, the Burgundy, which has not been sold for a long time but which can be found many times from time to time second hand (example ici or To be). For me, it is the equivalent of the Classic from Celine, especially in its older versions (example ici), which have interested me for a long time: a bag to carry on the shoulder or across the body, generous with several accordion compartments, in a simple shape that never goes out of style.
If I find it one day in a color that I like and in good condition, I will definitely treat myself to it!
2. A VINTAGE GOLD OMEGA WATCH
In an age where my phone can tell me the precise time with a tap on the screen, I see watches as a decorative accessory in the same way as jewelry. I tend to only wear the one I have (which belonged to my grandmother) only for an extra touch of elegance or a little preppy side, rather than for everyday use!
For this reason, I want to one day make a good investment in a quality Swiss model, which will not be damaged (too much) and which can be repaired indefinitely or almost, in order to keep it in good condition. my life. I particularly dream of pretty vintage specimens from the Omega brand like in this style, especially those that were made in the 60s and 70s, with a real gold dial (14k or 18k) that will not tarnish and retain its value. I also really like the idea of it being a man's watch, because those are generally my favorite ones!
3. A COLORFUL HERMÈS SQUARE
I'm not a woman who wears scarves: I've never worn one, and I don't like it at all in general – perhaps because I associate it with a style that's too “ladylike,” too Versailles.
However, inexplicably, I would love to find a Hermès scarf that is not too classic (surprising pattern, cheerful and modern colors, etc.) if I one day come across a favorite in my budget. I think it would be a piece of history for me, a collector's item, a fashion icon, rather than a truly everyday accessory. Does this make sense? Not so much per se – but if I come across a nugget that speaks to me and brings me joy, then why not. And who knows, maybe it will convert me!
The ones I selected here come from the selection Farfetch !
4. GLOVE MARTINIANO BALLERINA FLATS
It's been years since I wore ballet flats, generally preferring moccasin or sandal type shoes depending on the temperatures. Perhaps because the experiences of confinement have given me the priority of comfort again, nevertheless, I have wanted for some time to find a very flexible pair, like slippers, in order to have a “neutral” option for the mid -season, easy to combine with all styles, but also very soft on my feet.
This flagship model of Martinianhandmade in Argentina and available in many colors (including how brown which I love!), makes me dream for its renowned excellent quality. They are all leather – even the soles, which can therefore be resoled over time to make them last longer. It’s a shame that we rarely find them on the second-hand market in Europe, but it still happens all the same. from time to time: I stay on the lookout!
5. A PRADA BELT
Belts are an inherent part of my style: I love the elegant touch of a beautiful buckle and leather on jeans, as well as the way they structure a silhouette. If I have a perfect brown example, found in a thrift store, I would love to invest in a beautiful, high quality black specimen from a major leather goods house, so that it can follow me for most of my life.
Hermès is of course renowned for its own, but they remain very expensive second hand and I find their brown color more typical; I would therefore prefer this option if I invest one day. For the moment, I'm looking for a classic version from Prada (without a logo, with a simple gold buckle) because I've heard good things about their durability. With a little patience, you can find some on resale sites for 100-200 euros!
